Passing of FP Captain Harry Salter

Obituary of Harry W. Salter Jr.

Harry Weber Salter, Jr., passed away peacefully on July 11, 2022, with his devoted wife Karen at his side.

Son of the late Harry & Ethel Weber Salter, Sr. Devoted husband of Karen (nee Bracken) Salter, brother of Nancy “Bill” Mignogne and Susan “Truby” Jennings.

He was the founder of Chesco Mechanical Commercial Heating & Air conditioning which he managed for over 45 years.

Harry was a loyal volunteer for the Edgemont Fire Company

Family, friends and members of the Edgemont Fire Company are invited to his viewing Friday July 15th 9:45 -10:45 am at St. Mary Magdalen Church 2400 N. Providence Road, Media, Pa. 19063.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers donations in Harry’s name can be made to the Edgemont Fire Company 1010 Gradyville Road, Gradyville, Pa. 19039

Members wishing to attend who are wearing Class A uniforms are requested to be at the Church no later than 8:45 AM – this is when the fire company is expected to arrive. Members in Class A will be given the option to assist with a unique honor guard setup. Members without a Class A are still invited to attend, but will be requested to sit in a pew.

Passing of Fire Police Captain James L. Maitland

We regret to announce the LODD (Line of Duty Death) of Fire Police Captain James Maitland. Jim passed away at Riddle Memorial Hospital on Thursday December 23rd, 2021 after a brief battle with COVID-19. Jim served as Fire Police Captain with Parkside Fire Company as well as Fire Police Captain of Upland Fire Company. Jim was a wonderful kind-hearted man who would help anyone and it showed in his dedication to emergency services as well as in his military career. Jim was a great asset to Delaware County and will truly be missed.

Jim started his career in the fire service in 1988 when he joined Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company in Rock Hall Maryland. Jim joined Parkside Volunteer Fire Company in 1993 where he held the positions of Trustee, Fire Police Lt, and Fire Police Captain. Jim most recently also joined Upland Volunteer Fire Company in September of 2021 to aid in their Fire Police division holding the position of Fire Police Captain..

Jim was a great guy that would do anything for you. Jim helped many people and touched many lives. He was always the one person who you could turn to any time for anything. Jim was the man that would joke with you one day and had no problem putting you in your place the next day, that’s the kind of person everyone needs in their lives. A loyal friend and mentor to many people both in life and in the fire service. Jim may you rest easy with friends Gary Mulligan and John English, and please watch over those friends and family members left behind. You will always be loved and missed by many.

A Memorial Service will be held on January 7th, 2022 at Upland Baptist Church, 325 Main Street Upland, PA starting at 6pm. Fire apparatus are requested to participate. Obituary of James L. Maitland

James L. Maitland, age 76 of Upland, PA, passed away on December 23, 2021 at Riddle Memorial Hospital. Born to the late James W. and Brenna Mae Sommers Maitland, in Chester, PA, James resided for the past 30 years in Upland, PA, previously residing in Eastern Shore, MD. James currently worked for Murphy Ford, and previously was a truck driver, hauling heavy equipment. He was a member of the Upland Fire Co., Parkside Fire Co., Rock Hall Fire Co., and served as the Captain of Fire Police. In his spare time he enjoyed paranormal investigations with his best friend, Steven Edwards, was a Baltimore Ravens football fan, and loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. A veteran, Jim served his country as a Veteran in the US Air Force. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Eleanor “Sam” Maitland, 3 children, James (Jennifer) Maitland, Michael (Jennifer) Maitland, and Kevin (Linda) Maitland, and a step-daughter, Stephanie (Richard) Bauer, grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan, Andrew, Ciara, Jason, Jasmine, Darian and Kristie, and 2 great-grandchildren, Marilyn and John. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 7th at 6:00pm at the Upland Baptist Church, Upland, PA.
