Charles A. Alexander, age 85

Charles A. Alexander, age 85, left his physical life for heaven on September 9, 2014. After living in Folcroft for over 50 years he moved to Garden Spot Village in New Holland in 2011. Charlie worked as an off-set printer for many years mostly with the American Baptist Publishers in Valley Forge. He was also a bus driver in the 1960s for the Folcroft School District. He was a proud US Army veteran of World War II serving in Austria and Germany with the 4th Constabulary Regiment.

Life for Charles revolved around family, church and community service. He was a longtime member of the Folcroft Union Church where he helped start the Christian Service Brigade program in 1960, was a financial secretary, served on the board of deacons, served as an usher, bus driver, kitchen aide, custodian and handyman. He also bought and installed an off-set printing press for the basement of the church to print all materials on sight for church functions. In the community he was a life-member of the Folcroft Fire Company where he served faithfully for many years as a fire policeman and ambulance driver as well as assuming the role of Santa Claus each year for Christmas outreach.

He was honored with the first annual George White Good Guy Award. In 1995 he successfully instituted a private campaign to raise funds needed to supply the Folcroft Police Department with bulletproof vests. Along with his son, Dean, he served with the R.E.A.C.T. highway assistance team of Delaware County and as a member of the Folcroft Town Watch. In 2001 he was appointed to a 4 year term as the Judge of Election for the Fifth Precinct in Folcroft. Son of the late John P. Alexander and Helen M. (nee Diehl).

Survivors: Husband (of 64 years) to Ruth A. (nee Kilian), Father of Drew (Pat) Alexander and Dean (Cindy) Alexander, Grandfather of Kristin and Joshua Alexander and Heather (Chris) Ermel. Brother of the late Helen, John Jr., Francis and Joseph Alexander and Marge LaCorte.

Services: Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Charlie’s life and legacy at a Memorial Service on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014 at 2p.m. in the Folcroft Union Church, 500 Primos Ave., Folcroft, PA 19032. There will be a calling time from 1-2p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions are requested in his memory to the Memorial Fund of the Folcroft Union Church.
