Fred Charles Bort, Jr. 84
Fred Charles Bort, Jr. 84, a longtime resident of Norwood, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2015, at the Prospect Park Health and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on June 27, 1931, in Shambungu, Belgium Congo, Africa, while his parents were serving our Lord as missionaries.
Fred graduated from Glen-Nor High School, Class of 1950. He served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Fred was retired from Bell Telephone. He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Glenolden and was a past member of the Norwood Fire Co. No. 1, Fire Police and Ambulance Corps. He played in the “Over Forty” Softball League (Eddies Aston Mills Tavern) and played softball up to the age of 70. He participated in the Delaware County Senior Olympia Games as well.
Fred enjoyed deer hunting for over 45 years.
He will be most remembered as a man who was devoted to his family.
Fred was predeceased by a son, David, and a sister, Clara.
Survivors: His beloved wife of 64 years, Dolores; his children, Fred Charles III, Shirley Quinn, Diane Skalish, and Danny; his brother John; and his nine grandchildren and his 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service: Will be held on Tuesday, September 8, at 11 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.
Visitation: Will be on Tuesday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home.
Burial: Will be in Glenwood Memorial Gardens in Broomall, Pa.
Contributions: In lieu of flowers, contributions made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, Pa. 19106 would be appreciated.
