Robert “Bobby” A. Bates, Sr.


Robert “Bobby” A. Bates, Sr., age 77, of Parkside, PA, formerly of Wallingford, PA, died October 30, 2015. Born and raised in Chester, PA, Bobby served in the U.S. Air Force, was employed by Sun Shipbuilding and C.K. Seidman Appliance, and retired in 2003 from Congregation Ohev Shalom where he spent many years as maintenance supervisor. In his retirement, Bobby was a driver for Ramada Park ‘N Jet and Community Transit. Bobby was a member and trustee of the former Old Union United Methodist Church in Rose Valley, PA. He was also a member of Upland Fire Co., Rose Tree Fire Co., Delaware County Fire Police Association, and a Life Member of Garden City Fire Co. in Wallingford, PA. Bobby enjoyed bowling, fishing, and weekends at King Nummy Trail Camp Ground in Dias Creek, NJ. He especially enjoyed being “Pop Pop” to his seven grandchildren.

Survivors: Bobby is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Bates (nee Rudolph); his brother, James Bates (Ann) of New Castle, DE; his children George Bates of Bastrop, TX, Irene Boyer (James) of Wallingford, PA, Tony Bates of Philadelphia, PA, John Bates (Jessie) of Suquamish, WA, Jennafer Krissinger (Michael) of Media, PA, the late Robert “Chip” A. Bates, Jr.; his grandchildren James (Lauren), Tyler, Jordan, Samuel, Paige, Phoebe and Norah; his great-grandchildren Shawn, Riley, Baby James; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service: Thursday, November 5th, 11:00 AM at Lima United Methodist Church, 209 N. Middletown Road, Lima, PA 19063. Visitation: Wednesday, November 4th, 7:00-9:00 PM at the Minshall Shropshire-Bleyler Funeral Home, Middletown (Rte #352) & Knowlton Rds., Middletown Twp., Media, PA 19063, and Thursday, after 10:00 AM at Lima United Methodist Church. Interment: Private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bobby’s name may be made to, Garden City Fire Co., 412 Moore Rd., Wallingford, PA 19086. Condolences:
