William H. Conner Jr.
Havertown resident; passionate volunteer
William H. Conner Jr., of Havertown, died Oct. 10 at Bryn Mawr Hospital.
Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Conner was raised in Havertown and Ocean City, N.J. He graduated from Haverford High School, and earned his degree from Gettysburg College in 1952.
Mr. Conner served in the Air Force and was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. In 1954 he took over his family’s business, Conner Church Supper Service, after retiring from the Air Force with the rank of major.
A passionate volunteer, Mr. Connor served in the Oakmont and Lansdowne fire companies. He also volunteered at Haverford Mercy and Springfield Memorial hospitals. In retirement he volunteered at the Venice Regional Medical Center in Venice Island, Fla.
Mr. Conner was devoted to the 7th and 8th District Fire Police Associations, and was a past president of both the Delaware County Fireman’s Association and the Delaware County Fire Police Association. He was also active in the Havertown Optimists Club.
Though he started spending winters in Venice Beach Island, Fla., after his wife’s death, he lived in the same Havertown and Ocean City houses all of his life.
He was the widower of Rose M. Conner, and he was the son of the late Beatrice and William Conner Sr.
Survivors: Daughter, Kimberly M. Lynch; sons, William H. “Tre” Conner III of the Drexel Hill section of Upper Darby, Donald T. Conner of Haverford; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Service: Noon Wednesday, Robert L. D’Anjolell Memorial Home of Broomall, 2811 West Chester Pike, Broomall
Visitation: 10-11:45 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home
Burial: Philadelphia Memorial Park, Frazer.
